Events during BackCare Week

BackCare Awareness Week, is an annual event that provides BackCare and our sponsors with the opportunity of promoting awareness of those who suffer from back pain, and what can be done to treat and prevent back pain.

This year is our 40th anniversary, so should be an extra special one for all involved!

We are all too aware at BackCare that there is no miracle cure for all back pain, but many different products or treatment may be of help to some patients. There is however one aspect of any back pain management program that helps all and that is positive thinking, having a positive self belief and believing you can control back pain instead of back pain controlling you. We would like to hear your views on this, take part in our short self-help survey.

Our Vice Patron Dame Carol Black, National Director for Health and Work says:

'Musculo-skeletal disorders, of which back pain is the most common, have accounted for around 1 in 8 of all sick notes issued in recent years.

It's a huge problem, which we have to tackle now for the good of the workforce both today and tomorrow.

Early intervention is key to achieving a quick and sustained recovery and avoiding long-term ill-health. Being able to continue working in a supportive and healthy environment is also important.

I would totally support the power of positive thinking when it comes to back pain, but having an employer who recognises and understands the issues before acting quickly to remedy them is also vital. We all have to believe we can do it, if we are to succeed in making Britain healthier and happier at work.'
